British Dietetic Association
Over a year long event consultancy period Gallus Events worked closely with the chief executive and board to complete a detailed analysis of the potential for a commercial event business for the BDA.
Like some associations the planning and execution of events was spread across the association. The BDA was without a dedicated event manager. This meant that the Chief Executive drafted the programme and sourced speakers for the big events, the admin team supported the event, the sponsorship manager turned her hand to exhibition sales and the marketing and membership team concentrated on making the most of the association events.
But things were about to change. By creating a new series of events Gallus Events excited the BDA members. By outlining and supporting an innovative approach to their events Gallus Events added value to the BDA. While planning this strategic change Gallus Events fitted out and fixed all of the areas of the BDA’s current events.
Gallus Events worked on the following areas for the BDA:
- Advice and support on meeting design
- Support for 2013’s events
- Development of events in 2014
- Advice on webcasting / streaming and hybrid events
- Guidance and guidelines on speaker and chairman selection and briefing
- Reviewing contracts with event suppliers
- Budgeting and cost saving
- Support with sponsor and exhibition engagement
- Developing an event pricing strategy
- Supporting the development of events to increase member retention and recruitment
- Objective setting for the department and for individual events
- Creating an events brand
- Supporting and scoping the 2014 BDA events calendar
- Supporting and developing creative ideas for all event marketing
- Supporting communications and messaging to boards and members
- Supporting and advising on the use and implementation of event technology
- Supporting the implementation of standard operating procedures
- Supporting the implement of streamlined event management processes
- Tailoring and delivering training for BDA staff involved in event delivery
- Undertaking a skills gap analysis for BDA staff involved in event delivery
We now have a new model for future events and demonstrated an ability to engage with our members in new and exciting ways. This was only achievable by working with William's team at Gallus Events.

"We wanted to create a dynamic, creative and innovative event that delivered top quality content. We wouldn't have been able to deliver this type of event without the support and direction from Gallus Events. I must say that working alongside their team I learned a tremendous amount”
Sallie CoventryPortfolio Director / IBTM Events, Reed Trave, Exhibitions
"Gallus Events detailed consultancy hit the nail on the head. By adopting their planned and strategic approach to the content, for all of our seven shows, the educational programme will play an important role in increasing the number of visitors and hosted buyers to our shows. It will also play a role in recruiting, recapturing and retaining exhibitors."
Debra DawsonChief Executive / Design Business Association
“William worked with the DBA to do our event consultancy in 2012 bringing his knowledge and experience to bear on our events programmes working with us to address the challenges when introducing new systems and processes to the way we work. I’m delighted to say that coupled with an extremely hard-working and talented events team at the DBA, 2013′s programmes are delivering against our strategic aims, attracting much higher numbers of delegates and generating far greater levels of profitability. Want to know the secret? Hire William. We recouped our investment on one event alone.”
"After many years of delivering a routine annual conference format, the BDA decided a complete review of its leading event was required. The feedback has been immensely positive and other associations are now asking us how we did what we did. This shows we have delivered something truly innovative and ground breaking, something we are very proud of."
Faye LeviMarketing Manager / The CFA Institute

We not only saw a big increase in the number of paid delegates, but also in the awareness and traffic to our event site. There's still a lot more that we can do, and I'm sure William's suggestions will be invaluable"

"I just wanted to drop you a note to say thank you so much for the last couple of days. For the last 6 months I have felt like I am on a treadmill that I couldn’t get off, but now I can (well after some more hard work but I see the light at the end of the tunnel). You have put the fire back in my belly, so thank you and I am excited to see what the coming months bring working with your proposals"
Kathryn ClarkEvent Manager / NHS confederation
Whilst we have a successful annual conference, we are keen to bring in new ideas to keep the audience engaged and for them to come back year on year. William has delivered a number of workshops for us, giving staff the tools and confidence to plan new and innovative sessions. He has been able to adapt the workshops to meet the needs of the participants. We are still in the early days of planning the 2016 event, but the added value and impetus these workshops have brought to the table, will ensure the continued success and growth of our annual conference.

William was a massive help to me, giving a second, well-informed perspective not only my events programme but my approach to sponsorship. His fantastic ideas have made me rethink my strategy and I will be making a great deal of changes! I can’t recommend William highly enough and look forward to working with him again in the future.

"I've been working with Gallus Events on an ambitious new whisky festival, to be launched off the back of our World Whisky Day project. I’ve been hugely impressed by the creative thinking that William and his team bring to the process – they have a wealth of ideas for turning every aspect of an event into a talking point that engages and excites the audience. They're also very strong on the practicalities of event management and have a refreshing commitment to delivering profit – as well as remaining flexible and able to tailor their service according to changing circumstances. Recommended!"

William delivered the “Creatively Engaging a Conference Audience” training course in house for the RAeS to help us develop a more creative approach to our learning events. The session was very interactive and engaging and our conference producers learned a great deal from the day. Highly recommended”
