You have a choice with your association events. Blue or Red?
Events in the association sector, although in some way buffered from the effects of a downturn, are suffering. But the problem for many associations is that they don’t even realise it yet.
In many associations things look fine. The number of events they are running hasn’t changed much over the last year or two. Perhaps one or two of the smaller conferences weren’t run this year, and yes of course attendance is down but you would expect that. Everything looks ok. And if ‘ok’ is all you are after, then that’s just ‘ok’.
If however you want your events to; drive your membership renewals to new levels; raise more income to support your membership fees; demonstrate your thought leadership in your sector and truly inspire your membership and beyond then things aren’t ‘ok’. So you have a choice. Red or blue?
OK isn’t OK
Associations have the opportunity to run the most cutting edge, dynamic and inspiring of events. They have the opportunity and the means that many a commercial company would sell their company silverware for. They have the chance to play Alice or Neo; to see how deep that rabbit hole goes.
Now is the time for associations to take that leap of faith and to start to deliver truly unique events for their membership and perhaps beyond.
William is presenting at The Association Congress on Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th July in Liverpool. He will no doubt show his passion for this sector. He hopes to inspire a few associations to run truly memorable events.
